Full Description
Start your day at 8:00 AM with a visit to the iconic Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, an 18th‑century riverside shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali. From here, enjoy a scenic ferry ride across the Ganga to reach Belur Math, the peaceful headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission that welcomes pilgrims of all faiths.
By late morning, continue to the impressive Magen David Synagogue, one of Asia’s largest, showcasing Kolkata’s Jewish heritage. Around 12:30 PM, head to Kalighat Temple, a revered Shakti Peeth and one of India’s most important pilgrimage sites dedicated to Goddess Kali.
In the afternoon, visit the ornate Parasnath Jain Temple, famous for its glass mosaics, silver deities, and a lamp that has burned continuously since 1867. At 3:00 PM, pause for a hearty Bengali lunch at a local restaurant (own expense).
Conclude your journey at St. John’s Church around 4:00 PM, a colonial landmark with neoclassical design and historic memorials, including Job Charnock’s tomb. Conclude the day at 5:00 PM with a cup of masala chai in an earthen cup before returning to your hotel.
